3blue1brown is just, like, a staggeringly good math channel. I’m
always impressed by how he manages to make all these abstract concepts
so visually intuitive, highly recommend to anyone trying to learn math
concepts.
I like this video a lot, is it sub appropriate though? Grant’s whole
shtick is to be unassuming and empowering of those who feel
uncomfortable with math (rather than project some kind of sagely
otherworldly-ness like most topics of this sub).
Or are we just appreciating someone rationally minded who is
thoughtful and considerate?
I used nsfw. My thought is if you’re going to do battle with those who wish to lord over the world with math, a different interpretation can be eye opening.
Actually, come to think of it, I think the discussion of odds framing vs probability percentage framing is actually quite relevant to the failed attempts at "bayesian updating" that happen among rationalists.
When you are asked the probability percentage of an event like the AI apocalypse, the fact that percentages are between 1 and 100 already primes people to pick larger numbers. The true probability might be 0.000000001%, but it's a pain in the arse to even write that out, so priors are generally biased towards larger numbers. Also, when you have to "update", bayes rule is a pain in the arse, so a lot of people are just adding a percentage point or two.
Whereas if you were thinking about odds, the question becomes: are the odds 1 in a thousand, one in a million, one in 10\^20? Which is a more sensible way of thinking about some of these extreme cases.

He also has some good videos on machine learning and AI that Yud should probably watch too.
When he rolled up his sleeves on Lex swoon swoon
Is the bayes rule fetishization like a fun way for the sneer-ees to pretend they are smarter than everyone else
