You'd think that but many NRx were calling for [making Steve Jobs the God-King Executive of the USA](https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Curtis_Yarvin#CEOs_as_governors) at some point
> They did, in fact, research that particular cancer and its potential treatments. But I suppose it's fair to say, if unfair to live the reality, that such is the way of the cognitively privileged alone.
Having the time and resources to research a cancer and potential treatments definitely *is* a kind of privilege, but a *cognitive* one tells us yet again about Yud's fundamental concern toward the world.

It's a bit stupider than that (Maybe it's meant to be a trick question?), because the main reason to be concerned about melting permafrost is the potential release of methane clathrate.
I used to use the word “subculture” when I was writing about rationalism because I wanted to be relatively even-handed...but I think the word “cult” - the word I always intended - is more appropriate here
I might be wrong, but I think that 'methane clathrate' specifically refers to a crystalline structure that forms underwater (like mostly in oceans), and is distinct from methane that is trapped in permafrost. As far as I know the methane clathrates are the potential danger from the 'clathrate gun', which is more of a far-fetched, 'we're-already-fucked' problem, and permafrost is the larger concern.
Thanks, you're probably right in that he probably means terrestrial permafrost, whereas methane clathrate is covered by [submarine permafrost](https://www.cosis.net/abstracts/EGU2008/01526/EGU2008-A-01526.pdf), which is probably much less likely to melt. I will edit the [wikipedia entry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methane_clathrate#Methane_clathrates_and_climate_change) which confused me.

I’m honestly more concerned about the comments above this one -
Because G. Miller is saying stupid stuff about climate change this time
- and in particular claiming that people who haven’t pursued a detailed
education shouldn’t be allowed to want to minimize the damage caused by
climate change. Then, when people challenge this idea, he claims that
there’s no point in democracy.
Like, I know Yud is being a massive ass again, but that’s less
concerning.
That doesnt count, they were not real rationalists /s
E: looked up scott Alexanders post on metamed, he researched antioxidants with them. So several million dollars and thw first thing they do is go after hipster superfoods...
Ironically while antioxidants can mitigate DNA/mitochondrial DNA damage and lower mutagenic load they increase cell survival/proliferation significantly especially in malignant cells because of some of their intrinsic properties.
It’s more complicated than that and sometimes they actually can be helpful for treating cancer, but that’s a bit above my pay grade. Might have to do with outpacing angiogenesis and suffocating itself.
Geoffrey Miller tweets "Pro tip: if someone says they're 'very concerned' about climate change, ask them if they're more worried about permafrost melting or about methane clathrate melting.
If they don't have an answer ready, they weren't 'concerned' enough to learn much about climate change."
Someone retorts with "Pro tip: if my mother gets cancer my priority is gonna be to find a good physician to guide me in looking for adequate treatment, not to research how cancer or it's treatments work."
Big Yud responds by saying " have a friend who did recently get cancer. They did, in fact, research that particular cancer and its potential treatments. But I suppose it's fair to say, if unfair to live the reality, that such is the way of the cognitively privileged alone. Consider your point made."
Favorite part is when someone responds: “Or maybe take a shot at
charity and empathy rather than condescension and pedantry?” And
Geoffrey says: “Empathy for cheap-talk virtue-signaling is how
civilization fails.” Homie sounds like Dwight Schrute 😂(but without the
endearing naivety). Yes dude, civilization will fail without bold,
fearless truth-tellers like you tweeting about your risqué lack of
empathy lmao.
How’d that work out for Steve Jobs?
Also, how do you post this publicly and not think to yourself, “Wow, I’m a massive cunt”?

Christ alive what a fucking horrid thing to say
Jesus christ, don’t these folks have any filter?
Do these people not remember that they tried this approach already with MetaMed and it failed completely and utterly?
Guess this was Big Yud because I’m blocked. Anyone willing to assist with a copy-paste?
